A sixth person has died on the roads, after five others were killed in separate accidents at the weekend.

The sixth victim was a 21-year-old man who died when the car he was travelling in crashed on the main Ballyjamesduff road in Co Cavan early yesterday morning.

Three of the other fatalities happened last night when two men and a woman died in a collision between a number of cars and motorbikes in Co Donegal.

Several more people were injured in the pile-up, which happened at Ballintra, on the Ballyshannon to Donegal road, shortly after 6pm.

Elsewhere, a 22-year-old man died when the car he was travelling in crashed and overturned in Kilmaine village, near Ballinrobe in Co Mayo, yesterday morning.

An 18-year-old man also died in hospital yesterday afternoon from injuries he sustained when the car he was travelling in struck a wall on the Dublin Road in Galway city on Saturday morning.
