A teenager died today after crashing a car which had been reported stolen in Cork city hours earlier.

A teenager died today after crashing a car which had been reported stolen in Cork city hours earlier.

The 17-year-old male driver was killed in the accident at Lotamore, Old Youghal Road, Cork, at 1.35am.

A garda spokesman said: “The car had earlier been reported stolen from a service station on Skehard Road. The car had been seen on a number of occasions by gardai during the night.”

Gardai from Mayfield in Cork are investigating the crash, which happened when the vehicle collided with a pillar at the entrance to a private house.

The 20-year-old male passenger in the car was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where his condition has been described as stable.
