Man still in custody over death of Mullingar pensioner

Gardaí in Co Westmeath are continuing to question a man in his 30s in connection with the death of a pensioner whose body was found in Mullingar over the weekend.

Gardaí in Co Westmeath are continuing to question a man in his 30s in connection with the death of a pensioner whose body was found in Mullingar over the weekend.

The man was arrested in the Mullingar area at around 5pm yesterday.

He is being questioned about the death of 82-year-old Michael Creighton, whose badly beaten body was found in his apartment on Castle Street on Sunday evening.

Mr Creighton, who was originally from Galway, is believed to have been the victim of an aggravated burglary and may have been dead for a number of days.
