Funeral of Lady Beit takes place in London

The funeral has taken place today of Lady Clementine Beit, which took place at St Peter's Church, Eaton Square in London.

Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism John O'Donoghue today attended the funeral service on behalf of the Government, which took place at St Peter's Church, Eaton Square in London.

Minister O'Donoghue said the occasion was one to recall the very valuable donation of famous artworks by the Beit family to the National Gallery and also the personal commitment and generosity of Lady Beit in giving her time as a member of the Board of Governors and Guardians.

Minister O' Donoghue echoed the feeling of profound sadness of the National Gallery's staff at her passing.

Minister O'Donoghue said: "The Beit Wing and future activities planned by the Gallery to commemorate the influence of the Beit family would serve to ensure the Beit name would continue to be fondly remembered by the public."
