Crash sparks evacuation of packed Luas
Passengers were today evacuated from a Luas tram after another crash involving a car.
The tram was packed with passengers as it travelled from St Stephen’s Green to Sandyford.
At around 12.50pm the tram collided with a Ford Mondeo car which was pulling out of Clonmel Street.
The front bumper of the car was torn off by the impact and the engine was damaged.
Two glass panels in the door at the front of the tram were smashed and passengers had to wait on board until staff from the Luas operator, Connex, arrived to force the door open.
Neither the driver of the car nor the Luas passengers were hurt in the collision. Members of the Dublin Fire Brigade were on the scene in minutes.
