Fourth arrest over gangland shooting

Gardaí today made a fourth arrest in connection with the gangland shooting of a 36-year-old Dublin man.

Anthony Creed, from Westbourne Drive in Clondalkin was shot twice in the chest by a shotgun-wielding gunman who burst into his house in the early hours of May 27.

Three of his four children, all aged under 11, were at home at the time.

Gardaí arrested three people in the days following the shooting but they were released without charge.

A Garda spokesman said a 20-year-old had been arrested today as part of the murder investigation.

He is currently held at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The man is being questioning about his knowledge of the murder but is not believed to be the main suspect for the shooting.

Detectives believe Mr Creed may have been targeted because of his links to the drugs trade, or because of a personal dispute with other men from Clondalkin.

One of Mr Creed’s children saw the gunman flee on the bike but was unable to give a description because he was wearing a balaclava.
