Up to 4,000 trout are believed to have been killed on the River Inny between Oldcastle in Co Meath and Lough Sheelin in Co Cavan.

Up to 4,000 trout are believed to have been killed on the River Inny between Oldcastle in Co Meath and Lough Sheelin in Co Cavan.

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has now launched an operation to remove fish from another section of the river before they are affected.

The board said it had identified the cause of the kill, but did not disclose what it was.
