Irish tourists warned of dangers of new ‘ecstasy’

Young Irish holiday-makers are being warned to stay away from a new form of the drug ‘ecstasy’ that is popular in European resorts.

‘GBH’ or ‘liquid ecstasy’ – a potent form of the drug that is particularly dangerous when mixed with alcohol – is being blamed for the death of a 27-year-old Sligo man in Ibiza last Monday.

President of the Europe Against Drugs group, Grainne Kenny said Irish people holidaying on the Continent should avoid the drugs scene: “Contaminated batches do turn up because these drugs are made in backstreet laboratories,” she said.

“People have to be very clear when they're going on holidays to that they steer clear – it’s just too dangerous.”
