Jellyfish force charity swimmer to call off bid

An Irishman has failed in a charity attempt to break a world record by swimming across the Irish Sea in 45 hours after he was stung by a shoal of jellyfish.

Feilim O'Maolain began the 56-mile swim in Holyhead early yesterday morning and was originally hoping to arrive in Dublin this evening.

However, he was forced to give up after 22 hours at sea last night when he was stung by the jellyfish.

Mr O'Maolain embarked on the ambitious feat to raise money for the homeless.
