Youths attack fire crews

Police and fire crews were attacked today by a gang of youths in Northern Ireland.

The emergency services were targeted with missiles as they responded to a car fire in the Frederick Street area of Derry at about 3am.

A police spokeswoman said two youths were arrested, and a third reported with a view to prosecution for public order offences.

Fire fighters had to withdraw from the area but police remained and managed to restore calm.

One PSNI officer suffered a minor head injury.

Meanwhile, a disturbance was also reported in the Fountain Estate area of the city shortly after 10am yesterday.

A group of youths threw missiles and a petrol bomb was also launched.

There was no damage caused and no injuries were reported.
