Dangerous N2 stretch set for €120m overhaul

A notorious stretch of the N2 road in Monaghan is to be replaced between Castleblaney and Monaghan.

The dangerous 10km stretch of road is to be replaced with a new road including a "two-plus-one" lane system, a first for Ireland. The system, which provides for an extra overtaking lane, is already a success in Scandinavia.

Three roundabouts are envisaged on the new Monaghan stretch, costing some €120m.
