'60% of schizophrenics may attempt suicide'

Up to 60% of Irish schizophrenia sufferers could attempt suicide at some stage in their lives, according to the support group Schizophrenia Ireland.

Up to 60% of Irish schizophrenia sufferers could attempt suicide at some stage in their lives, according to the support group Schizophrenia Ireland.

Spokesman John Saunders also said that around 10% of schizophrenia suffers would succeed in taking their own lives.

Mr Saunders was speaking at the launch of a campaign to raise awareness of the links between suicide and mental illness.
