UUP welcomes NI teachers' funding package

Ulster Unionist Party education spokesman David McNarry has welcomed the British government decision to backdate teacher's pay in Northern Ireland with a funding package worth £6.5m (€9.3m).

Ulster Unionist Party education spokesman David McNarry has welcomed the British government decision to backdate teacher's pay in Northern Ireland with a funding package worth £6.5m (€9.3m).

He said the announcement was "long overdue".

"For too long Northern Ireland's teachers have been overworked and underpaid in comparison to their counterparts in England and Wales. This announcement will, at long last, address this scandalous situation," said Mr McNarry.
