The setting of the date for the retrial of Dermot Laide for the manslaughter of Brian Murphy outside the Burlington Hotel in 2000 has been adjourned to July 27, by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Dermot Laide (aged 23), from Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was found guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in February 2004 of manslaughter and violent disorder in relation to the unlawful killing of Mr Murphy outside the hotel on August 31, 2000.

His conviction for manslaughter was overturned by the Court of Criminal Appeal on February 24, 2005.

Prosecuting counsel Mr Brendan Grehan SC told Judge Desmond Hogan that the retrial of the manslaughter charge could take four to five weeks.

Defence counsel told Judge Hogan that an application for legal aid will also be made on July 27.
