A local climber has been airlifted to safety after being injured in a fall on Hungry Hill near Castletownbere in West Cork yesterday evening.

A local climber has been airlifted to safety after being injured in a fall on Hungry Hill near Castletownbere in West Cork yesterday evening.

The man, who works as a volunteer with a mountain rescue team, was climbing with friends when the accident happened.

He was rescued by helicopter at around 3am this morning and taken to Cork University Hospital.

The nature and extent of his injuries are unknown.
