One dead after 'copter crash

One man has died following today’s helicopter crash in Co Galway.

Gardaí say the man in his 50s was a passenger in the helicopter, which crashed in the Derrybrien area of the county, near Loughrea, at about 12.10pm.

The other two passengers are understood to be in a critical condition at Galway University Hospital.

The helicopter is believed to have been traveling to Galway from Waterford. All of the men are believed to be from the Galway area.

The site of the crash has been sealed off by the fire service and gardaí ahead of the arrival of the Air Accident Investigation Unit.

The dead man will not be named until next of kin have been informed.
