TUI blames large class sizes for growing indiscipline
The Teachers Union of Ireland has said large class sizes are contributing to the growing problem of indiscipline among second-level students.
The union made the comment ahead of today's publication of a report from the task force set up by the Government to examine the matter.
TUI assistant general secretary Declan Glynn said: "[Pupils] are infinitely easier to manage if they're fewer in number. We languish at the bottom of the league table in terms of class sizes.
"Only five countries in the wider European area have class sizes higher than in Ireland, so we're not using the nation's wealth very well."
