UUP leadership candidate calls for protest ban at marches
One of the candidates in the upcoming UUP leadership election has called for a ban on nationalist protests against Orange Order parades.
David McNarry, who is himself a leading Orangeman, claimed such a ban was warranted following the violence that accompanied a contentious parade through the nationalist Ardoyne area last Friday.
Eighteen police officers and 11 others were injured when nationalist youths attacked the parade with petrol bombs and other missiles.
