A survey by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland has found measures designed to protect new homes from radon gas are not proving entirely effective.

The survey in Kilkenny, where radon is a particular problem, found that 10% of new homes fitted with protective barriers still contained unacceptably high levels of the gas.
