Ireland's referendum on the European Constitution has been thrown into further doubt.

Denmark announced today that it was likely to abandon holding a public vote planned for later this year, while there’s been speculation that Luxembourg is about to do the same.

The Taoiseach and Minster for Foreign Affairs have arrived at the crunch EU summit in Brussels where the document's future will be decided.

Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern sounded close to a decision, saying that, whatever course of action was chosen, the member states would progress “in a consensual way” over the next couple of months.
