Trocaire is warning that the G8 deal may not deliver any extra finance to Africa.

The Irish charity wants a guarantee that the debt relief will be on top of existing aid.

They are concerned the money will be taken out of the aid budgets of rich nations, and so there will be little net gain for African countries.

Caoimhe de Barra, of Trocaire, says the G8 needs to make a commitment to fund the debt cancellation through increased resource levels so that "they are not just taking the money from their aid budget and translating it into death cancellation but actually increasing the overall amount of money that will be available to the poor countries".
