The 29-year-old man knocked down and killed by a police vehicle in Belfast early today has been named as Jim McMenamin.

The Police Ombudsman's office is conducting an inquiry into the circumstances of the tragedy.

The police are reported to have been responding to an emergency call at the time of the accident.

Local SDLP councillor, Tim Attwood, said today that he is confident the facts will come out following the Ombudsman’s investigation and offered his party’s sympathies to the family of the victim.
