Woman's condition serious after Garda car crash

A woman in her 70s is in a serious condition in hospital today after being struck by a garda patrol car in south Dublin yesterday afternoon.

The woman was waiting at a bus stop on Clonskeagh Road when she was struck by the vehicle shortly before 4pm.

Witnesses said the patrol car was travelling with its siren sounding, but the gardaí would not confirm if it was involved in a high-speed chase.

The bus shelter was completely destroyed in the crash and had to have its electricity cut off before the garda car could be removed.

The woman struck by the car was transferred from St Vincent’s Hospital to Beaumont Hospital this morning, while the two gardaí involved were treated for shock.
