Irish bank representatives said they have presented proposals for greater financial inclusion to Minister for Social and Family Affairs Seamus Brennan this evening.

The banks met the Minister after a report was published on Monday which said lone parents were being pushed toward moneylenders because they were unable to open bank accounts.

The Minister asked the Bankers' Federation to meet him urgently following Monday’s revelation.

The Federation have described the meeting as "productive".
