The new leader of the Ulster Unionist Party will be elected at a special meeting of the party's ruling council on June 23.

Until then, party president Lord Rogan, assembly member Reg Empey and the party's only MP, Lady Sylvia Hermon, will be in charge.

The decision was made at a meeting of the party's executive today.

David Trimble resigned as leader after the Ulster Unionists lost all but one of its seats in the Wesminster elections.
