Garda breaks wrist after being pushed into river
A garda suffered a broken wrist today after he was assaulted and pushed into a river.
The officer was on duty at Penny Bridge, Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan at 2.30am when he noticed a man acting suspiciously.
When he challenged the man, the man assaulted him and pushed him down an embankment into a river. The Garda sustained a broken wrist in the fall.
Gardaí have appealed for information from anyone who saw anything suspicious or unusual in the area during the early hours of the morning.
The garda was recovering tonight in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
