Chawke shooting accused remanded in custody

The two men accused of shooting publican Charlie Chawke have been remanded in custody to May 26, when their case will before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court again.

Frank Ward (aged 51) of Knockmore Avenue, Tallaght and Larry Cummins (aged 54) of Summerhill Parade, are charged with the shooting and robbery of Mr Chawke at his public house, the Goat’s Inn, in Dundrum on October 6, 2003.

Mr Chawke was confronted by two armed men as he was leaving the premises to bring takings to the bank. He was shot in the leg, even though he said he would hand over the cash.

Ward and Cummins were charged and have been remanded in custody since October 6, 2003.

Judge Hogan adjourned the matter pending a high court decision that will affect Mr Ward’s and Mr Cummins’s case
