Fianna Fáil TD Martin Brady has called on the drinks industry to freeze the price of alcoholic products in an effort to recover lost business.

Mr Brady was speaking as the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) prepares to give a presentation to the Oireachtas committee on enterprise and small business this afternoon.

The VFI is due to make a submission about a drop in business since the introduction of the workplace smoking ban just over a year ago.

Mr Brady, the vice-chairman of the committee, said the federation could take a step towards recovering some of this business if the price of drink was frozen for a year.
