A report commissioned by the Government has reportedly recommended the reopening a stretch of the western rail corridor between Ennis, Co Clare, and Claremorris, Co Mayo.

The 185km stretch of railway has been closed since 1976, but last month the Taoiseach told the Dáil that he was in favour of reopening it.
