A number of people were injured in Co Down when a gang stormed a house and attacked revellers at a party.

Police said around 16 people were in the house at Reilly Street in Banbridge when it was attacked shortly before 4am.

Eight people armed with clubs burst into the house by both the front and back doors and set upon the occupants.

About 10 of the occupants, which included three women, were injured and taken to hospital.

One of the injured suffered serious head and back injuries, another suffered serious facial injuries, and three others suffered serious head injuries.

The injured were being treated in the Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry and Craigavon Hospital. Five children who were in the house escaped injury.
