UN calls for Irish peacekeepers in Sudan

The United Nations is believed to have requested Irish soldiers form part of a new peacekeeping force in southern Sudan.

The force is being deployed in the African nation to police a peace deal signed in January to end 21 years of conflict between the Sudanese government and rebel groups.
