Disabled face tough time finding employment, says Authority

Disabled people are two and a half times less likely to have a job than anybody else, according to the National Disability Authority.

The body said this in turn was leading to higher levels of poverty among households headed by disabled people.

It said one of the reasons why disabled people were less likely to find employment was because they tended to leave school earlier, but it also said many employers did not have disabled-friendly workplaces.

The Disability Authority said a target should be set to increase the number of disabled people in work by 13,000 in the coming years.
