Harney to receive Dunne Inquiry’s final report today
The Tánaiste and Minister for Health Mary Harney is reportedly due to receive the Dunne Inquiry’s final report later today.
The inquiry was set up five years ago to investigate the retention of children’s organs by Irish hospitals without the consent of their parents.
Ms Harney has decided to halt the inquiry before it completes its investigations due to criticism of its failure to produce any reports, despite incurring €20m in costs.
For this reason, today’s report will only deal with three paediatric hospitals that senior counsel Anne Dunne has been able to investigate.
This morning’s newspapers said the report was not expected to be made public for a couple of weeks.
