Scallop fishermen plan Dáil demonstration
Scallop fishermen from the south-east of the country are due to demonstrate outside the Dáil today in protest against an EU deal struck last year.
The South East Fishermen's Organisation has claimed the agreement effectively renders its members' licences worthless.
Michael Walsh, the chief executive of the organisation, said the quota allocation included in the deal was only enough for three or four large vessels while there are 17 boats operating in the scallop sector.
