First phase of massive shopping centre opens in Dublin

The first phase of a massive new shopping centre development has opened in the Dundrum area of Dublin today.

Scores of leading international retailers have outlets in the Dundrum Town Centre, including Timberland, BT2, Zara, G-Star, Monsoon, Principles, H&M, House of Fraser, Brown Thomas, Marks & Spencer, Next and Penneys.

Most of these outlets have now opened to the public as part of phase one of the project, which also includes a theatre, cinema complex, restaurants and a fashion district due to open later this year.

Phase Two of the scheme, which is due to be completed before 2008, involves further retail units and a 105-bedroom hotel.

The Dundrum Town Centre, which is set to become one of Europe’s largest retail and leisure centres, is located on a 17-acre site and will eventually employ around 4,000 people.

The section already completed stretches for nearly half a kilometre alongside the Dundrum bypass.
