Greens launch by-elections campaign
The Green Party has pledged to improve the quality of life of residents in Meath and North Kildare if its candidates are successful at the upcoming by-elections in the two constituencies.
Speaking at the launch of the Greens' campaign for the two ballots today, party leader Trevor Sergeant said the Government had failed the people of Meath and Kildare, particularly when it came to public transport.
"Transport malaise in Meath is indicative of the national picture, where there's a four-to-one imbalance in capital expenditure by this Government in favour of roads over public transport," he said.
"That indicates the kind of discrimination which is putting people in the position that they have to be so car dependent because there isn't public transport available."
