Man arrested after gun threat to Belfast security guard

Police in the North have arrested a man in connection with an incident in which a security guard was threatened with a gun yesterday morning.

The guard was confronted by an armed man who grabbed her by the throat at a building site on Blacks Road in west Belfast shortly before 8.30am yesterday.

The assailant put his gun to the guard's head and demanded her car keys before driving away in her Honda Civic with two other men.

Last night, PSNI officers spotted the stolen vehicle in the Kennedy Way area and approached, sparking a car chase that led to two police vehicles and another car being damaged.

The Honda was eventually abandoned on the Poleglass estate and the three occupants fled.

Police said one man was arrested not far from the scene a short time later and a firearm was recovered from the car.
