FSAI serves two enforcement orders in January
Two enforcement orders were served on food businesses in January 2005 by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), including one closure order.
The closure order was served by environmental health officers on Cunninghams takeaway, Castlemartyr, Cork due to breaches of food safety legislation.
Closure Orders are served when it is deemed, that a food business is, or is likely to pose a grave and immediate danger to public health.
An improvement order was served on Kellys Public House, Castlebar Street, Westport, in Co Mayo.
Improvement orders may be issued by the District Court if an improvement notice is not complied with within a defined period.
Dr John O'Brien, chief executive, FSAI stated the orders marked a disappointing start to the year but were necessary to protect consumers.
"While the number of closures each month remains small, the fact that there are any at all is unacceptable," Dr O'Brien said.
