58 jobs to go as Jefferson Smurfit mill to close

Jefferson Smurfit is to close the Smurfit Paper Mill in Clonskeagh, Dublin, with the loss of 58 full-time and 12 part-time jobs.

The mill has been in operation for 51 years and the closure will take place in a month’s time.

The company said the decision was made as the mill had become "uncompetitive due to a number of key factors, including reduced market pricing, increased energy costs, higher environmental charges and changing market requirements for packaging paper grades".
