Aer Lingus has announced that chief executive Willie Walsh and his management team are to resign their positions in the company by the end of this month.

Mr Walsh and his colleagues have been coming under pressure to step down amid reports that they were planning to establish their own low-cost airline to compete with Aer Lingus.
