180 jobs to go in Tallaght

Some 180 jobs are to go in Tallaght with the announcement by APW Enclosures that it is to halt production in June.

The manufacturing firm has said it is down to commercial reasons, and there is speculation it is considering relocating to Eastern Europe.

It is a massive blow to the workers, some of whom have been with the company for 18 years. John Bolger of the ATGWU has said it is another example of manufacturing jobs being lost.

“It’s a very sad scene that they are losing their job for whatever reason but particularly on the basis that it is a pure commercial decision that has been made.”
