Packages spark Stormont alert
The Stormont Parliament Building was at the centre of a security alert today.
British army bomb disposal experts were called in to examine a number of suspicious packages.
The Police Service said they were investigating the delivery of several suspect packages to the building. The Fire Service was also called to the scene.
A police spokeswoman id the building – home to Northern Ireland’s suspended Assembly – was not evacuated.
The British army bomb experts were dealing with the packages at the rear of the building, she said.
A spokesman for the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister said three packages were at the centre of the alert.
It was not known whether the packages were addressed to local politicians or officials.
