Police uncover further details of toddler's death

In the North, more details have emerged on the double tragedy in Co Tyrone when a three-year-old toddler and a man from Co Donegal both lost their lives.

The three year old was run down by the man whose body was later found in a quarry nearby.

The tragedy began when Adam Mullan, aged three, and his mother Queenie, were struck by a car on the afternoon of December 26 at Donemana, Co Tyrone.

Adam died after he was rushed to hospital. His mother, aged 33, who has two broken bones in her neck, is ill but stable in hospital.

The driver, John Montgomery, aged 22 from Whitecross in Co Donegal, was later found dead in a Donemana quarry after taking his own life.

It has since emerged, Mr Montgomery was a friend of the Mullan family and had spent Christmas Day with them in Lifford, Co Donegal.

The dead child’s uncle said Adam Mullan had been killed in a tragic accident and his mother bore Mr Montgomery no malice.
