€97m collected from tax defaulters

Revenue has collected over €97m from tax defaulters in the three months from July to September this year.

It has published the defaulters list which includes five people facing total bills, including penalties, of over €1m.

201 settlements of over €12,700 were made with Revenue during the period and those names were published.

Netting over €26m, most relate to bogus non-resident accounts, with a handful relating to Ansbacher, NIB or offshore funds investigations.

The largest was by Knockvale Limited, a glass and glazing contractors on Kells Road in Navan, Co Meath, who faced a bill of almost €1.75m.

Noel Corrigan, now deceased, a company director from Castleknock, has a bill of almost €1.5m.

Peter Byrne, an oil distributor in Liscooley, Co Donegal, was hit for over €1.25m after the NIB investigation.

The other two with bills of over €1m are James Mulligan, a bookie from Castleknock in Dublin, and Michael Scally, a farmer from near Kinnegad in Co Meath.

The published settlements are only a portion of all audits, with a total yield from Revenue investigations in the three months of €97m.
