Cullen says no to big fares hike

Minister for Transport Martin Cullen has turned down a CIÉ request for an 8% increase in fares at the group’s three companies, it emerged tonight.

Mr Cullen said he carried out a detailed examination of the application from Iarnród Éireann, Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann and had decided that an increase of 3.5% in fares was more appropriate as it was more in line with inflation.
