Four killed in road accidents yesterday

Four people have been killed in the past 24 hours in separate road accidents in Mayo, Meath, Galway and Dublin.

The most recent victim was a male pedestrian in his 30s, who died after being struck by a car in Painstown, Co Meath, shortly before 11pm last night.

Two elderly female pedestrians were also killed yesterday.

A woman in her 80s died after being struck by a van in Tuam, Co Galway, shortly after midday, while a woman in her 70s died in hospital a few hours after being hit by a truck in the Cornmarket area of Dublin at around 11.45am.

A woman in her 30s also died yesterday afternoon after the car she was driving collided with another vehicle in Hollymount, Co Mayo.

Gardaí are withholding the names of all four fatalities until next of kin have been informed.
