The Government is due to rush through new legislation today in an effort to prevent compensation claims from people in residential care homes who were illegally charged by the State.

The Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition admitted last week that an estimated 20,000 people had had their pensions or other allowances deducted to pay for their care.
