Workers reject An Post’s restructuring plan

The Communications Workers' Union has voted overwhelmingly to reject An Post's proposed restructuring plan.

The union said today that almost 95% of workers voted against plans to reform delivery and collection services.

Reports this morning said the workers were being offered a 5.35% staggered pay increase in return for redundancies and cuts in overtime.

A spokesperson for the CWU said today that the Labour Relations Commission was now likely to refer the dispute to the Labour Court.

Meanwhile, Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin has urged both sides to continue with negotiations on the restructuring plan.

"In terms of any industrial relations dispute, dialogue is the key to resolving the issues," he said.

"I think people should continue to sit around the table until they come up with an agreed set of proposals."
