Animal welfare activists have called on the Government to ban fur-farming during a protest outside the Department of Agriculture today.

A petition against fur-farming containing more than 11,000 signatures was handed in to Minister Mary Coughlan.

Speaking at the protest, Green Party leader Trevor Sargent said: "I feel very strongly that if people knew the kind of conditions in which foxes and minks are being reared, not for food, but as a fashion item, then I think they would call on the Government to ban fur-farming like they have in the UK."
