The number of people on hospital waiting lists in Ireland has fallen by just 1,500 in the first nine months of this year.

Reports this morning said figures due to be released by the National Treatment Purchase Fund next week would show that the numbers awaiting treatment had only dropped slightly from the figure of 27,318 recorded in December 2003.
